The Key To Success Is Getting Off Your Ass

A lot has changed since I wrote my first blog post a few months ago. First and foremost, I completely forgot about my blog, I graduated college, and scored one of the best after college careers I could have ever asked for. While I've been away, enjoying all that the universe has granted me I realized how I left behind so many of the things I genuinely love because I felt like my life was complete. So let's be real, when you land a job that pays you more than the average American income you kind of feel like "Nigga we made it". Little was I mistaken, I've only just begun. A year ago I came across a post on @elizafallon's IG account that read something along the lines of "Don't wake up every morning to help someone else build their dreams and forget about your own " and today while sitting on the train, reading Sophia Amoruso's #GIRLBOSS", I realized that I was doing just that. For some, scoring a job like mine is ideal and maybe even more than good enough, but for me this is only the beginning of my journey. I have so much more to create and share and it all starts here. I started my blog because I realized how many people are inspired by my work ethic and how far I've come being only 20 years of age. At first I used to think "what in the hell do these people see in me that I'm not seeing? I get up and just do the shit that I'm supposed to do". Now, as I watch my younger brother and sister struggle to find that motivation and courage to wake up every morning and just be great, I see why people admire my work ethic. Odd enough, not many people have the drive and ambition to do the things that they are supposed to do. So going forward, as I find growth in myself and in my life I plan on continuing to build my dreams and share my accomplishments and experiences with you guys to hopefully inspire you to build yours! First things first, get off your ass and do something for YOU. Yeah, you've got a good job, a good salary, and you're content with you're life, but answer this question, are you building your dream life and career or are you helping someone else build theirs? I have not sketched, sewn, done hair, done yoga, been to a museum, or written anything outside of emails and reminder notes in almost 3 months. If you're anything like me, you know that you have more to offer and if you don't think you do that's ok too, hopefully I can help you find your motivation to be the best you that you can fucking be!

So here are a few things I suggest on your journey to building your dreams:

1. Get Off Your Ass We are a generation that truly believes that someone owes us something. Well news flash, they don't. I grew up poor and as embarrassed as I use to be to say it now I could care less because I've worked so hard that I can officially consider myself wealthy according to Washington Post. Funny right? No one will walk past you and just hand you $50-100k for fun, sorry. Get off your ass and work really really hard, cry a lot because you're overwhelmed, stay up all night until it's done, consider dropping out and becoming a stripper because it's easier, and get pissy drunk and celebrate all of the challenges you went through once you've succeeded. Trust me, I've had so many of those nights that I think I'm immune to crying at this point in my life.

2. Drop Out of School No, not literally. What kind of person do you think I am? However, keep in mind that some of the most successful people on the planet dropped out of school to pursue their dreams. This doesn't mean drop out of school and sit on your ass and think that the perfect opportunity will slap you in the face because it won't. These people ditched school to work endlessly on things that they believed in. Let's face it, school isn't for everyone. I know one of the greatest musicians of our time that dropped out of high school and he inspires me more than anyone I've ever known. If you are are brainiac and school is for you then make sure you're not wasting time majoring in a field that you absolutely hate. Too many times people go after the money and wake up every day, unhappy to go to work. However cliche this may sound, it's very true "do what you love and you'll never work a day of your life". One of my best friends has a great job as a CNA at Tallahassee Memorial and majored in Biological Science for 3 years, all while being very passionate about being an actor and an entertainer. Yes, I asked myself everyday is she drunk or stupid. Now she majors in Mass Communications, which clearly suits her well if you know her. Moral of the story, find your niche, live out your dreams, and don't let money or time stop you from that.

3. Stay Inspired Easier said than done huh? Who has time to be inspired when you're day is piled with work and school right? Well if you think that then you've clearly misread something and should refer back to point number 2 because whatever you're doing in life should always inspire you. If it wasn't for my current endeavors I wouldn't even be writing this blog post. The people you hang around, the choices you make, the food you eat, the places you go, should all inspire you and force you to see things that you would have never seen unless you were in their presence. Most importantly, be an inspiration. Be so good to yourself and be so inspired that your energy inspires others.

Say it with me, I'm going to be the greatest me that I can fucking be (insert salsa dancer emoji here x 3)
